Which procedures are taught in this course?

Module 1 of the Junior Doctor Procedures Course combines small group interactive discussions and hands on procedures training for the following procedures:

  • Optimal patient positioning for airway management
  • Bag valve mask ventilation
  • Airway adjuncts: OPA, NPA Laryngeal mask
  • Endotracheal intubation
  • Emergency Surgical Airway/cricothyroidotomy
  • Pneumothorax diagnosis & management
    • Finger thoracostomy/intercostal catheter insertion (small bore and large bore)
  • Rapid Infuser Catheter (RIC line) insertion
  • Intraosseous needle insertion
  • Spinal immobilisation: cervical collar application, cervical spine clearance
  • Femoral traction splint devices: Donway and CT6
  • Pelvic Binder application
  • Epistaxis management & nasal foreign body removal

Module 2 of the Junior Doctor Procedures Course combines small group interactive discussions and hands on procedures training for the following procedures:

  • Video laryngoscopy
  • Arterial blood gas sampling
  • Arterial line insertion
  • Ultrasound guided peripheral IV access
  • Local anaesthetic infiltration: Nerve blocks – digital, facial, dental
  • Joint reduction: finger, shoulder, patella
  • Nasogastric tube insertion
  • Lumbar puncture
